Father's Day Bull Trout June 16th 2013

Well, it's been a while since my last post but today June 16th, 2013; being that it's Father’s Day today I was inspired to get out and cast a line.
Let me just say, it is so nice to get out and 10 minutes from leaving my house to be on the water!

It seems we all wait patiently for Opening day to come, hopefully with minimal high water run-off such as this year. Here's hoping for a nice long gradual run-off rather than in past years where the mountains pounded down water, and the spring rains added to the mess.
This year looks very promising so far, and although there is rain forecast in the area this week, today was an exceptional day for fishing.

The morning started early, and I was on the water at 8:30AM after having a short conversation with my neighbor; he was envious that I was heading out, and he had to stay and paint his house. But after telling me about his 100 fish day last year on the Oldman river, he wished me luck and reluctantly went back to work on the house.

I must say that my landing percentage needs improvement as while hooking 5 Bull Trout and 1 Rainbow I only managed to land one Bull. I did however have a very good look at all of them as the water clarity is very good for run-off conditions, and I managed to get them all close enough to see what they were, and which fly that they were taking...all took the smaller trailing Streamer.

Here is a couple pictures of the nice healthy Bull Trout:

This was the first year in many years that I have had Father's Day off to enjoy for myself and I must say, this was a perfect morning on a Perfect River. The weather was amazing and so was the fishing.

Tightlines,
John
